In a recent letter from The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario to the Bureau of Medical Marijuana Regulatory Reform, the CPSO indicated that it has:
“significant concerns with Health Canada’s proposed changes to Marijuana Medical Access Program. In summary, these are as follows: concerns regarding Health Canada’s characterization of dried marijuana as a drug which must be prescribed, and the extent to which the provisions of the draft regulations will accord with expectations for safe prescribing and professional conduct; and concerns regarding potential negative implications the draft regulations will have for patients and physicians.”

According to Health Canada, “The proposed new regulations will protect the health, safety and security of Canadians and their communities by eliminating the production of marihuana in homes.
The Government will no longer produce and distribute marihuana for medical purposes, opening up the market to companies which meet strict security requirements. Production will no longer take place in homes and municipal zoning laws will need to be respected, which will further enhance public safety.”
The new system is set to be implemented on March 31st 2014.
